It's been a long time since the last time I updated my blog. How are you doing, guys? I'm doing fine here in Taiwan.
So, I've decided to share a little bit about my life here in Taiwan. First, I'm in senior year now. yeay~
Most of my uni life I spend on studying and doing a part time job.
What am I studying? I study Early Childhood Education for my major and just take some English class if I still have free times.
How I get my part time job? So, I have a friend and she has a friend that is going to buy a cram school (near my uni) and she's looking for an English teacher to teach Junior High and Elementary School students. Since I'm staying in a district where all the people are speaking Chinese and Taiwanese, and my friend knows that my English is much better than other, so she asked me in the first place. At first, I am not sure if I can do this but I know and believe I'm gonna be a good teacher. Then after I talked to my mom and friends, I called my friend and said okay, I will try my best. Also she said I should come to the cram school the day after she made that call. And this is how I got my part time job here.
How much do I get pay for one month? Actually it depends on how many weeks do I have on that month or how many hours I come on that months. Because I'm just a salary teacher so it depends on how many hours and how many classes I have. For example, in August I have four classes a week. Three hours for each classes. And 150NT per hours. (Small amounts for a teacher but since I'm just part timing, so it's okay). So, here's the picture of how many days I've been working in August.
So, as you can see, I've been working for 18 days this month. Three hours for each day and 150NT for each hour. This is the calculation. 18x3x150 = 8,100NT. So this month, I will receive 8,100NT. The class may be cancelled or postponed, so when it's cancelled , I won't get paid.
Do you need license or work pass to work in Taiwan? *P.S. : I am a teacher.
The answer is YES!!! You need work pass from the government. How to get the work pass? My school helped me to get my work pass. I need someone to guarantee that I'm just a student who just part timing and I have International Students Affairs who guarantee me (us). I need a student card that proves that I'm still student and has stamp from school that I've paid my school fees. And the most important, I need my ARC (identity card) or passport. That's it for the work pass. What about the certificate or teaching license? No, I don't really need that. People here always, I mean often searching for teacher who knows how to speak English well, know how to teach and a foreigner. Point if you are a foreigner and a native speaker. They are just going to make an interview and have you read some articles and do some test (Based on my experiences). Point if you have IELTS or TOEFL or TOEIC certificate.
I think I'm going to have part two about my life in Taiwan. Hope you guys enjoy it and see you soon guys.
